GridPort Version 3.5.1 Released!

08/12/2005

The GridPort Team has released its most recent version of the Grid Portal Toolkit (GridPort), version 3.5.1.

GridPort 3.5.1 is an incremental release in the GridPort 3.5 series and contains many bug fixes to both the demo-portal and GPIR.

For more details see >>http://gridport.net/3.5.html

About the GridPort 3.5 series releases

The GridPort 3.5 series contains significant changes to the 3.1 release and is intended to be a transitional release between 3.x and the upcoming 4.0 release. These changes include:

  • The adoption of the JSR-168 Java Portlet standard which provides a common API for developing portlet web components and provides customizable interfaces and as well as portability.
  • A move away from programming to an inflexible API towards interoperable but independent, pluggable component portlets.
  • Separation of portlets/user interface from external services (both GridPort specific or GT4, etc.).
  • Automated installation with Maven (no need to download related libraries, this is done automatically).
  • Integration into OGCE
This new release contains a new set of demonstration portlets as well as standalone versions of the GridPort 3.x web services. New Demo Portal Portlets
  • The new demo portal portlets componts with same (or advanced) capabilities of previous GP portals providing basic Grid access and capabilities
  • The demo portal comes ready to install with the GridSphere Portal Framework into a Tomcat web server.
  • Portal has been installed and tested on Linux (Red Hat, SUSE) and we are planning to support Windows and Mac OS X.
Standalone services
  • The GPIR and CFT web services have been extracted from GridPort 3 and can now be installed separately. We have also removed the JBoss dependency so that all service components install easily into Tomcat.
  • These services now include a ready-to-deploy lightweight database that makes installing and using them easier than ever!
Same product, new package
  • Based on user feedback, we have repackaged the software from v3.x to make it easier to pick and choose what you want to install rather than having to install everything at once.
